Over a career span of 25 years (1950 - 1975), Madan Mohan composed music for 95 released Hindi films and 12 shelved films. These 100 plus films featured almost 700 songs, many of which are remembered to this day while some have been lost over the years. He was extremely versatile, but he is best remembered for his ghazals, pathos-laden songs and classical based songs due to their immense popularity. His songs with Lata Mangeshkar in particular have become a part of Indian Film Music history.

Note:
1. * Madanji sings as he composes the mukhda of this song in Raag Megh.
2. ** Madanji sings as he composes this stage based song. The quality of this retrieved part is not good.
3. Song 1 and Song 4, Teri Aankhon ke Siwa while having the same lyrics and tunes, have different arrangements as the mood of the two are situationally different. The female version is sad while the male version is romantic.
4. The title song, Chirag Dilka Jalao, was not featured in the film.
Note:
1. * Song 2 MAI RI, was sung by Madanji on the track as a reference for shooting as Lataji was unwell (as in case of Naina Barse). When HMV wished to make a Tribute album for Madanji, the family found this version in his voice accidentally and then it was featured by HMV on an album with 2 antras only. Now the entire recording with 3 antras in Madanji's voice can also be heard.
2. The film also has various additional couplets and bandishes rendered by Lata Mangeshkar in the background.
3. Madanji won the National Award for DASTAK.
4. ** Madanji sings as he composes the mukhda of this ghazal. He is so lost in his composing mood that he at times says 'deewar' in place of 'bazaar'... the quality of this retrieved part is not good.
Note:
1. Though both songs were filmed, Song 6 "Meree Duniyaa Mein Tum Aaee" was not in the initial release of the film. While Song 3 "Tere Kooche Mein Teraa Deewaanaa Aaj Dil Kho Baithaa" was. A few weeks later Song 3 was replaced by Song 6.
2. * This song was composed by Madanji many years earlier. Here he is composing the song with slightly different notes than the one he finally recorded.
