1. Mere Dilse Aake Lipat Gayi
Singer(s): Mohd. Rafi & Asha Bhosle Lyrics: Raja Mehdi Ali Khan
This romantic duet by Rafi Sahib and Ashaji was originally recorded in 1965 for the film NEELA AAKASH (which also had the popular duet "Aapko Pyar Chhupane Ki"). Reportedly, the makers felt they needed a lighter duet, lyrically and musically, and thus this song was rejected after being recorded and a new duet was recorded which also became a big hit... "Tere Paas Aake Mera Waqt Guzar Jaata Hai".
Rafi Sahib and Ashaji sang all the 3 duets, and all were penned by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan.
2. Meri Aankhon Se Koi Neend
Singer(s): Lata Mangeshkar Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan
This is the earlier recorded version of the popular classic "Meri Aankhon Se Koi Neend" from the film POOJA KE PHOOL (1964). This was recorded and loved by one and all, but something made Madanji want to re-record it. Rais Khan, the noted sitarist, had just been introduced in this song with minimal sitar pieces. Madanji felt he wanted to use more sitar interludes and thus change the arrangements a bit. For this purpose, the entire song had to be redone with Lataji having to re-sing it, as, in those days, the multi track facility did not exist. Thus in this earlier version, which can be heard for the first time, we can hear more of santoor (played by Pandit Shivkumar Sharma). The final released version which we all are familiar with, has no santoor, and has additional 'harkats' by Lataji.
3. Mujhe Apni Ankhiyaan Dede
Singer(s): Lata Mangeshkar Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan
This song was recorded for the film POOJA KE PHOOL (1964) for the character of the blind girl, played by Nimmi, singing to her pet bird. After the recording, it was probably felt that the song was not suitable enough, as the situation was changed to feature a pet cat instead. This recording was thus scrapped, and replaced by new lyrics, and a new song, "Miaoon Miaoon Meri Sakhi", which finally featured in the film. This song thus has never been heard before!
4. Ya Illahi, Ek Haseena Ne Machai Hai Tabahi
Singer(s): Mohd. Rafi
This song is a naughty frothy number sung by Rafi Saab in his inimitable style. This song was probably recorded in the mid sixties and was located by the Madan Mohan family from his master spools. It was never included on TERE BAGAIR, for want of space, and also as it's not a song in the typical style associated with Madanji and loved by his fans. Its different, and a situational number. But it's a rare treasure indeed for lovers of the light songs of Rafi Saab.
5. Har Sapna Ek Din Toote Is Duniya Mein
Singer(s): Mohd. Rafi
This is a philosophical song recorded in the early 70's. It is a tune in the Madanji style, but once again a situational song, sung with great emotion by Rafi Saab. The cross of the song, "Har Saathi Ek Din Chhoote Is Duniya Mein", rings true for Madanji and Rafi Saab, both of whom left the music world so early in the prime of their careers.
6. Ladkiyon Ko Chahiye Woh College Mein Seekhlein
Singer(s): Kishore Kumar Lyrics: Naqsh Lyallpuri
This song was recorded in the early 70's in the voice of Kishore Kumar for the same film as 'Aaj Mujhe Jal Jaane Bhi Do', tentatively titled REHNUMA. Written by Naqsh Lyallpuri, it is a naughty, teasing song... similar to the mood of Zaroorat Hai, and more in the mould of an earlier song of the duo, Suniye Suniye Aaj Ka Ki Ladkiyon Ka Programme. It is a situational song and indeed different from the Madanji style of songs. The highlight of the song is the parody element and the comic performing bits by Kishoreda, at which he was unique!
7. Aaj Ki Shaam Pahloo Mein Tu Aaj Ki Shaam
Singer(s): Asha Bhosle Lyrics: Naqsh Lyallpuri
This song was recorded in the early 70's in the voice of Asha Bhosle for the shelved film, tentatively titled REHNUMA. Written by Naqsh Lyallpuri, it is a very catchy composition in which, once again, Madanji displayed his mastery in creating an alternate tune for the antra.
8. Hum Hosh Lutakar Mehfil Mein
Singer(s): Asha Bhosle Lyrics: Naqsh Lyallpuri
This song, a mujra sung by Ashaji in her inimitable style, was recorded in the early 70's for a film that remained unreleased.
9. Music Track
[Instrumental]
This track was recorded for a film tentatively titled JAHAN TUM WAHAAN HUM - the same film for which KAISE KATEGI ZINDAGI TERE BAGAIR was recorded, in 1965.
This song was to be recorded by Lata Mangeshkar, but remained incomplete. The tune of the song can be followed by hearing the solo violin playing the melody.
