Tributes

Lataji's re-recorded adlib version (2000) of one of Madanji's first ghazals from Baaghi (1953)
15 April 2011

One of the first ever ghazals composed by Madanji was HAMARE BAAD AB MEHFIL MEIN from BAAGHI (1953), written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and sung by Lataji.

The words of this ghazal are indeed appropriate for any artiste, who receives more recognition and acknowledgement after he is has gone, and has left behind some memorable work which future generations will cherish.

This also seems particularly true in Madanji's case.

After his untimely death in 1975, Lataji sang this song as a tribute to him on a special Doordarshan programme in which the late Majrooh Sultanpuri, Jaidev and Ali Sardar Jaffri also participated and paid tributes to Madanji.

Thereafter, in 2000, she especially re- recorded this song in an adlib form to pay her respects to him at an event to commemorate his 25th death anniversary.

Here we can listen to this rerecording of 2000 set to images from Madanji's life and times.
