We fondly remember dear Kishoreda on his 24th death anniversary on 13 Oct 2011, with audio link to a rare song from MANMAUJI (1962)
12 October 2011

Kishoreda and Madanji were good friends. In fact, Madanji composed the music for many Kishoreda starrers, which unfortunately did not become big successes. These included ILZAAM (54), MEMSAHIB (56), BHAI BHAI (56), CHANDAN (58), CHACHA ZINDABAD (59), MANMAUJI (62) and LADKA LADKI (66). Of course these also had some popular songs sung by Kishoreda like Zaroorat Hai, Mera Naam Abdul Rahman, Aye Haseenon, and others. In fact, it was Kishoreda who urged Madanji to use the tune of one of his favorite English songs, Isle of Capri as the mukhda for the song Dil Dilse Milakar Dekho, which was filmed on him.

A rare song, Bura Lagta Hai Lage Duniya Ko, which was recorded for MANMAUJI, was banned for its lyrics and thus remained largely unheard. The song was originally released on 78 rpm records, and then these were cancelled and never played on radio... thus this song is never featured on LPs or CDs of MANMAUJI and also does not feature in the videos of the film.
(See below for a link to the audio of this rare, largely unheard song).

In later years, Kishoreda sang songs for Madanji like, Simti Si Sharmayi Si and Yun Na Sharma (PARWANA), Pyar Kabhi Kam and Har Koi Chahta Hai (EK MUTTHI AASMAAN), all the songs in SAHIB BAHADUR including Raahi Tha Main Awaara, Tauba Tauba, and Raat Ko Aaiyega, as well as 2 songs in the shelved film REHNUMA... Aaj Mujhe Jal Jaane Bhi Do (which was released on the album TERE BAGAIR) and Ladkiyon Ko Chahiye (released on Madanji's website a year ago).

In the last few months of Madanji's life, he was having a problem getting studio dates as well as dates of Kishoreda who was immensely busy with many songs a day for the younger composers. For one recording, Madanji waited in the studio all day with all musicians, but Kishoreda was delayed at a Panchamda recording in a studio nearby. Kishoreda was leaving for a foreign tour that same night. Madanji, a little upset, personally went to the nearby studio to request Panchamda to give Kishoreda an hour off to finish his song, which finally got recorded that late evening.

For the song Raahi Tha Main Aawara from SAHIB BAHADUR, which remained unrecorded due to lack of dates and Madanji's untimely demise, Madanji sang the song on a cassette and sent it to Kishoreda, teasingly adding a comment at the end, 'Arre Bangali Babu, mera gaana dhyaan se sunke, rehearse karke aana... aur bigaadna nahin'. The song was recorded by Kishoreda a month after Madanji's demise and he narrated this incident to all at the recording.

Those were the times when all the legends worked with much bonhomie and affection for each other!
