MILESTONE FILMS OF MADAN MOHANJI - NEELA AAKASH (1965)

With the scores of SANJOG, MANMAUJI and ANPADH in early 60s followed by a blockbuster year in 1964 with JAHANARA, GAZAL, HAQEEQAT, WOH KAUN THI among other musically appreciated films, Madanji had set high expectations for himself. At same time he had to adapt to the different styles of films being made in mid 60s. some with more light situations in romantic, youthful films.

NEELA AAKASH 1965 was a Mala Sinha and Dharmendra starrer, which required a versatile score to suit the film. Romantic duets, sad songs, dance songs as well as comedy songs. Madanji adapted well to the demand and created some songs that are still appreciated especially the two duets by Ashaji and Rafi Saab. A third duet which was recorded, was dropped and is a rare song indeed. The sad solo by Rafi Saab was also popular. The emotional Lataji solo, one of his favorite compositions, was deleted from the film, but is indeed worth a listen.

Since Mehmood played an important role in the film, two comedy situation songs were also created for him.

Once again Madanji used modern and mostly western style arrangements in the film, in keeping with changing times.
